What Is FlowGPT Now and Is It Safe to Trust With Your Chats

What’s Changed: FlowGPT launched in January 2023 as a library of ChatGPT prompts and now calls itself a “Character & Prompt Store”, where you pay for stronger models with a credit called Flux. It is safe enough for adults who keep personal details out of their chats, and it is no place for teenagers. The privacy policy on its own website still dates from November 2022.

What is FlowGPT, and should you trust it with your chats? It is a website where anyone can publish an AI character or prompt, and anyone else can chat with it on a choice of AI models.

The prompt library it started as is still there, but the characters now come first.

The safety question has a sharper answer than most pages give. A study of FlowGPT published at CHI 2026, the main academic conference on human-computer interaction, examined 307 public chats with its adult bots.

In 22.8% of them the bot produced sexual content even though the user had written nothing sexual, by a ChatGPT-based check, and Google SafeSearch put that share at 16.6%.

The detail that bothers me most sits in FlowGPT’s own paperwork. Its privacy policy still reads “Last updated November 09, 2022”, two months before FlowGPT even launched, and it never mentions chats at all.

What Is FlowGPT Now and Is It Safe to Trust With Your Chats

What Is FlowGPT Now That It Sells AI Characters?

FlowGPT is a store of user-made AI characters and prompts that you chat with in the browser, on AI models you can switch per bot.

One model, Ares, is free for everyone, and the others cost Flux, the site’s own credit, though a paid plan makes five of them free within a cap.

How FlowGPT changed from prompts to characters

The homepage calls the site “The best AI ChatGPT Character & Prompt Store”, and its category chips put Romantic, Dominant, Submissive and Lover next to Job Hunting and Programming, plus a tag named “Jailbreak DAN”.

The About page still describes “a community for anyone to share and discover the best prompts”, which is why so many older write-ups call it a prompt site.

I call it a character store now, because that is what the front page sells first.

If you would rather build one companion of your own than scroll a feed of strangers’ bots, Candy AI is where many people in that spot go instead. It is adults-only and starts from a character you design.

Every FlowGPT bot is a written prompt sitting on top of a model, and the current lineup is sold under house names such as Apollo, Ares, Athena and Cupid.

FlowGPT’s older model FAQ still calls GPT-4 Turbo “heavily censored and costs Flux to use”, and it points anyone who prefers “uncensored chats” to smaller models such as Pygmalion or Mixtral.

Creators can also earn Flux in the site’s bounty contests.

Several directories and AI summaries describe FlowGPT as open source. Its terms of service say otherwise, since they forbid copying “any portion of the Services without the express written permission of FlowGPT”.

Is FlowGPT Safe to Use?

FlowGPT is safe enough for adults who expect adult content and keep personal details out of their chats, and it is not safe for anyone under 18.

The risk sits mostly in what the bots say and in how little FlowGPT’s paperwork says about your chats.

Three FlowGPT safety facts at a glance

FlowGPT’s reputation for loose moderation is earned. TechCrunch called it “the Wild West of GenAI apps” in 2024 and noted “multiple versions of DAN on the marketplace”, meaning bots built to talk models out of their safety rules.

My read of the platform starts there, with a huge open catalog and light review.

Does FlowGPT Allow NSFW Bots?

Yes, FlowGPT hosts NSFW bots behind an 18+ warning, even though its rules ban nudity in character images and its terms ban pornographic content.

FlowGPT’s interface carries an adult-content warning that reads “Warning 18+ – NSFW Content”, and a single “I am over 18 – Continue” button gets you past it.

The creation rules ban characters under 18, character images with nudity and real-world war criminals, and they promise deleted bots and account bans for repeat offenders.

The terms of service ban content that is “obscene, pornographic, vulgar, or offensive” on top of that.

In practice, the CHI 2026 study catalogued 376 adult bots on the site and found that Google’s image moderation rated 19.9% of their thumbnails as likely adult.

That means adult imagery can show up in the feed before you open a single chat.

The 22.8% figure from the same study is the one I would show anyone who thinks the 18+ button settles things.

A bot can steer a plain conversation into sexual content on its own, and the button does nothing to stop that.

How Old Do You Have to Be to Use FlowGPT?

FlowGPT’s own documents give four different minimum ages, from 13 to 18, depending on which page you read.

The strictest of the four, 18, rests on a single click.

Where FlowGPT says itMinimum ageThe wording
Terms of service13, with a parent until 18“You must be at least 13 years old to use our Services”
FlowGPT Co. privacy policy, March 202416 to register“we do not allow users who identify themselves as under the age of 16 to register”
Emochi on Google Play (US)Mature 17+“Mature 17+”, “Sexual Themes, Strong Language”
The adult-content warning18“I am over 18 – Continue”

Four floors for one product tells me nobody at FlowGPT owns the age question. The March 2024 policy and the 13-and-up terms cannot both be right.

A 13-year-old reading the terms is told they may join with a parent’s supervision, on a site with a “Jailbreak DAN” tag on its front page.

What Does FlowGPT Do With Your Chats?

FlowGPT does not say what it does with your chats in the policy its website serves, and its newer policy covers uploads only in general terms.

The web privacy policy lists email addresses, usernames and passwords as what it collects and states “We do not process sensitive information”, on a site built for roleplay.

A newer policy from FlowGPT Co., last updated March 29, 2024, sits on a separate address, appprivacy.flowgpt.com. It says uploaded content and images “are stored on our servers”, and that FlowGPT works with outside services “including but not limited to OpenAI” and text-to-speech providers.

The Android app points to a third policy, which our Emochi safety check covers in detail.

The terms add one clause worth knowing before you type anything personal. If an account is suspended for a rules breach, FlowGPT “may preserve information related to your account (including User Content and logs)”.

I keep anything personal out of FlowGPT chats, and this is the setup I use on any open bot site:

  1. Sign up with an email you keep for apps rather than your main Google account, since Google sign-in shares your Google email and, optionally, your avatar with FlowGPT.
  2. Leave your real name, school, workplace and photos out of chats and character profiles.
  3. Treat the 18+ button as a door rather than a filter, because bots can bring adult content into a plain chat.
  4. Delete the account from the Account page in Settings when you leave, then email FlowGPT to ask that the chat logs go with it.

A deletion email works better when it names the data you want gone. The Emochi listing on Google Play gives info@flowgpt.com as the contact address.

Vague: “Please delete my account.”

Specific: “Please delete my FlowGPT account, username [your username], registered with [your email], together with every chat log, character and image I uploaded. Please confirm by email when the chat logs themselves are deleted.”

Is FlowGPT Free to Use?

FlowGPT is free to use on one model, Ares, and you pay in Flux or with a Plus or Ultra plan for the rest.

Plus costs $14.99 a month and Ultra $24.99, and both sell “unlimited” chat on five featured models that FlowGPT caps at 25 or 50 chats every 4 hours.

The membership page prices each model per message in Flux. Iris and Athena cost 1 Flux, Hera, Zeus and Cupid cost 5, and Apollo, which the page calls “The best model”, costs 15.

Plus and Ultra members get Iris, Athena, Hera, Zeus and Cupid free.

PlanPriceFlux added each monthWhat the chat allowance covers
BasicFreeNoneAres free, other models cost Flux per message
Plus$14.99 a month or $144.99 a year1,500 Flux5 featured models, 25 chats every 4 hours
Ultra$24.99 a month or $244.99 a year2,500 Flux5 featured models, 50 chats every 4 hours

The plan cards promise “Unlimited Chats with 5 Featured Models”. Further down, the same page says “Plus Members: Enjoy a total of 25 free chats across all featured models every 4 hours”, with 50 for Ultra.

On Plus that works out to 150 chats a day at most, since the cap resets six times in 24 hours, and that is the number I would weigh against the $14.99.

The monthly Flux gift is valued at exactly the plan’s price, 1,500 Flux “a bonus worth $14.99” on Plus and 2,500 Flux “a bonus worth $24.99” on Ultra.

At 15 Flux a message, the Plus gift covers 100 messages on Apollo. Plus also doubles chat memory and Ultra raises it six times, and the two plans add 5% and 10% to every Flux top-up.

Credit where it is due, Ares costs nothing on any plan, and the paid caps reset every 4 hours rather than once a day. I pay monthly on any bot store for the first three months, because what breaks at month three decides whether a year would have been worth it.

Here the yearly Plus plan at $144.99 saves about $35 against twelve monthly payments.

Who Owns FlowGPT?

FlowGPT was founded by Jay Dang and Lifan Wang, who now lead Kaon AI, the venture-backed company behind the Emochi app.

Its backing is strong, which counts in its favor.

TechCrunch describes the founders as Jay Dang, a UC Berkeley computer science dropout, and Lifan Wang, a former engineering manager at Amazon.

It also reported a $10 million round in February 2024, led by Goodwater Capital with existing backer DCM. The pair launched FlowGPT in January 2023, one and a half months after ChatGPT’s release, according to a Berkeley Haas interview.

In July 2026 Kaon AI announced $60 million raised across several funding rounds, from investors including B Capital, Redpoint Ace, Goodwater Capital and DCM.

GamesBeat names Jay Dang as Kaon’s CEO and Lifan Wang as its COO, and calls Emochi the company’s flagship product.

GamesBeat put Kaon at $45 million in annual recurring revenue, with Emochi averaging 150 minutes a day across more than two million daily users.

Money on that scale tells me the company behind FlowGPT is not going anywhere soon.

The thing I am watching is whether that money brings FlowGPT’s 2022 privacy policy up to date with what the site now does.

Is Emochi Made by FlowGPT?

Yes, Emochi is FlowGPT’s mobile app.

FlowGPT’s own guide lists it as “Emochi (FlowGPT Mobile App)”, and Google Play shows FlowGPT as the developer.

Emochi runs on its own credit, Mochi, and sells its own Emochi Plus and Emochi Ultra plans with their own names and their own currency. Our Emochi review covers the app’s models and what its plans buy.

Does FlowGPT Have an App?

FlowGPT’s character chat app is Emochi on Android, and FlowGPT publishes no app for iPhone.

On an iPhone, the flowgpt.com website in a browser is the way in.

Emochi on Google Play carries a Mature 17+ rating for “Sexual Themes, Strong Language”, more than 10 million downloads and a 4.4-star average. The “EMOCHI World” app on the App Store comes from a different publisher, MESORA PTE. LTD., which our Emochi iPhone guide explains.

On Android, error messages such as “Something went wrong” come from Emochi, and our Emochi troubleshooting guide explains what each one means.

I check whether a site is down for everyone before I touch my own settings, and that habit saves a lot of pointless reinstalls.

What Should You Use Instead of FlowGPT?

If FlowGPT’s credits, filters or open catalog put you off, Candy AI is the stronger pick for one private companion, and CrushOn AI is closer to FlowGPT for browsing user-made characters.

Candy AI is the app I send people to when they want a single companion they design themselves, with adult content allowed and no store of strangers’ bots in the way.

It suits readers who found FlowGPT’s 4-hour resets and per-model Flux pricing more trouble than the bots were worth.

The catch is its free tier, which stops at 5 messages in total, so plan on the monthly plan, $9.99 for the first month and $13.99 after that, if you stay.

CrushOn AI works more like FlowGPT, with a large library of user-made characters and fewer filters.

It fits readers who liked the browsing and want less friction getting to the chat, and how CrushOn handles chat logs is worth reading before you share anything personal there too.
