A verified adult on Talkie gets the same content rules as a 14-year-old, just without the extra limits of Teenager Mode, Talkie’s setting for younger users.
The Terms of Service say “You must be at least 14 years old to use our Services, except where a higher minimum age is required by local law.” They then list 18 countries where the floor is 16, including Germany, Brazil and Singapore, and 5 where it is 15, including France.
That is only one of four answers to the age question, depending on where you look.

Australia’s eSafety Commissioner lists the minimum age as 16+ “according to Talkie,” and names Subsup, based in Singapore, as the developer. The Android listing, “Talkie: Creative AI Community,” carries a Teen rating with a “Sexual Themes” note, while the iPhone app, “Talkie Lab – AI Playground,” is rated 18+.
The Terms are the rule I go by, because they are the contract every user agrees to. I don’t expect a company that writes a 14+ floor into its contract to switch on adult roleplay, whatever the iPhone rating says.
Is Talkie 18+?
In the US, Talkie is rated 18+ only on the Apple App Store. Google Play’s US listing rates the Android app Teen, ratings can differ by region, and Talkie’s own Terms accept users from age 14, so the 18+ label belongs to one store listing.
The iPhone listing also names “Age Assurance” and “Parental Controls” as in-app controls. Neither one opens adult content, and both sit alongside a filter that stays on.
What Changed on Talkie in August 2026?
Talkie’s filter got much stricter around August 28, 2026, when adult accounts started hitting “Please change your topic” on ordinary lines and even on swearing.
Talkie’s FAQ says nothing about the change.
The complaints landed within a few hours of each other. One thread describes the notice appearing before the chat even accepts a message, and a reply there points to a character blocked for “shivering because she’s cold.”
Another thread opens with “Why can’t you cuss now on Talkie anymore? Not a teen account BTW.” A second adult in that thread says they are not a teen either and still get filtered.
The tone had shifted from confusion to cancellations by September 22. In the “Ban on NSFW” thread, the top reply reads “I cancelled my subscription over this,” and asks Talkie to stop treating “everyone as though they are using Teenager Mode.”

Does Age Verification or Talkie+ Unlock NSFW on Talkie?
Neither age verification nor Talkie+ unlocks NSFW on Talkie, because Talkie documents no adult mode for either one to switch on.
Verification confirms your age, and a paid plan adds features, but the content rules in the Terms stay the same.
The iPhone app lists a one-month plan at $9.99 and a one-month Talkie+ Pro plan at $24.99, according to the App Store listing. Neither plan is sold as an adult tier.
Results after the August change are mixed. A Talkie+ subscriber in the cussing thread says they were blocked less, while the top reply in the “Ban on NSFW” thread cancelled a subscription over the same blocks.
I don’t buy the idea that paying should unlock content the Terms ban. Before you pay for a plan to fix the blocks, note that Talkie’s FAQ says recharges are “generally non-refundable, except in cases of system errors or duplicated transactions.”
When a harmless line gets blocked, report it to the feedback address Talkie’s FAQ gives for AI concerns. Here is the order I use:
- Screenshot the blocked line and the “Please change your topic” notice.
- Note the date, the character’s name and whether Teenager Mode is on or off.
- Email feedback@subsup.com with the exact line, the screenshot and your account name.
- Ask for a review of the false positive, not for an exception to the content rules.
A report gets further when it proves the block was a mistake:

What Is Talkie Teenager Mode?
Talkie Teenager Mode is a passcode-locked setting for younger users that limits usage hours and turns off image generation, search, and creating, editing or sharing characters.
It adds limits on top of the content rules that already apply to every account.
An arXiv study of AI companion apps describes the mode as limiting “app usage hours as well as disabled image generation and searching, creating, editing, or sharing companions.” Bark’s parental review adds that it does not remove the app’s link to Talkie’s Discord community.
Switching Teenager Mode off does not open adult content. My advice is to treat it as a set of limits for younger users, since the NSFW ban itself lives in the Terms.
Why Do Some Sites Say Talkie Allows NSFW?
Talkie has been advertised and listed next to adult apps, which is the likely reason some sites say it allows NSFW, even though its rules ban adult content.
The likely sources are ads, app store ratings and roundup lists.
In April 2026 the Tech Transparency Project found Talkie among the sponsored apps at the top of Google Play results for “AI NSFW.” When it asked Talkie’s photo editor to remove a woman’s top, the app refused, but it swapped the top for a red bikini.
The iPhone version has its own history. The original Talkie app was removed from the US App Store in December 2024 for what the company called “technical reasons,” as the South China Morning Post reported. Today’s iPhone app is Talkie Lab, listed since February 2025.
I give Talkie credit on one point here: it refused the undressing request outright. The ad placement still sends the wrong signal to adults searching for exactly what the app refuses to do.
