Free Apps Like Tipsy Chat Compared for iPhone and Android

The Verdict: The closest app like Tipsy Chat on iPhone today is Janitor AI, which is in the App Store and free to chat on with its built-in model. Candy AI is the pick if you want pictures and a companion that remembers you, at $3.99 a month on its yearly plan in Safari. SpicyChat is the strongest free option for adult roleplay in a browser.

Apps like Tipsy Chat suddenly matter to iPhone owners, because Tipsy is no longer in the App Store. On October 31, 2026, Apple’s own app lookup returned nothing for Tipsy in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and India.

The iPhone app was still listed on October 17 with about 12,500 ratings.

Tipsy itself has not shut down. Its Android app on Google Play was updated on October 30 and ranks #7 in top-grossing entertainment, and the web app at tipsy.chat still opens in any browser.

What I care about is where an iPhone user who loved Tipsy’s story roleplay goes next, and which apps will not meter every message in gems. Every alternative below is sorted by the reason you are leaving, with App Store listings and prices checked on October 31, 2026.

If memory and pictures matter more to you than a free tier, Candy AI is where I would start, and it runs in Safari with nothing to install.

The free picks come further down.

Which Apps Like Tipsy Chat Feel Closest to Tipsy?

The apps like Tipsy Chat that feel closest are Janitor AI for open story roleplay with a big character library, and Candy AI for a paid companion with pictures and memory.

Character AI and Talkie Lab are on iPhone too, but both keep a strict filter.

Apps closest to Tipsy Chat by reason for leaving

Janitor is the one I point Tipsy refugees to first, because it pairs a huge community character library with an iPhone app you can still download. The table matches the reason you are leaving to the app that fixes it.

The field is crowded enough that you will find a fit. Appfigures counted 337 revenue-earning AI companion apps worldwide by August 2025, 128 of them launched that year, according to TechCrunch.

Who Should Choose Janitor AI Over Tipsy Chat?

Choose Janitor AI if you want free story roleplay you can install on iPhone and you are fine with a text-first app.

Its App Store listing, Janitor: Interactive Stories by JanitorAI, INC, is free, and the optional Janitor+ plan costs $12.99 a month or $99 a year.

The app is newer than the website, and the Janitor AI app guide explains how to tell the official app from the copycats. The catch is images: Tipsy generates pictures in chat, and Janitor is built around text.

Who Should Choose Candy AI Over Tipsy Chat?

Choose Candy AI if pictures, voice and a companion that remembers you matter more than a free tier.

Candy’s subscription page lists $3.99 a month on the yearly plan ($47.88), $8.99 a month for three months, or $9.99 for the first month and $13.99 after that.

Paid plans include unlimited text messages plus 100 tokens a month for images, voice messages and calls. The free plan stops at 5 messages in total, so try Candy AI once you are ready to pay.

Can You Still Use Tipsy Chat on iPhone?

You can still use Tipsy Chat on iPhone through the web app at tipsy.chat in Safari, but you can no longer download it from the App Store.

An already-installed copy may keep opening, and Tipsy remains on Google Play for Android.

Steps for Tipsy Chat users on iPhone

The removal was not a one-off. A post in r/CharacterAIrunaways on October 30 lists Chai, Tipsy Chat, SpicyChat, Emochi and PolyBuzz as gone from the App Store.

A reply there says installed copies keep working, while new users cannot download them.

Apple publishes no reason for any single removal. The timing follows Apple’s October 16 guideline update, which requires apps to proactively prevent and remove nonconsensual intimate imagery, including AI-generated imagery, and bars apps that change after approval.

What bothers me most is the money iPhone users already paid. Tipsy’s own subscription FAQ gives the steps, and I would follow them before your next renewal:

  1. Open the Settings app, tap your Apple ID, then tap Subscriptions.
  2. Find Tipsy and tap Cancel Subscription at least 24 hours before the period ends.
  3. Ask for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com, since the FAQ says Apple decides App Store refunds, not Tipsy.
  4. Use up your blue gems before the period ends, because they expire each month, while red gems you bought or earned stay on the account.

These apps were listed on the US App Store on October 31, 2026:

  • Janitor: Interactive Stories (Janitor+ from $12.99 a month)
  • Character AI (c.ai+ $9.99 a month, Lite $4.99)
  • Talkie Lab (Talkie+ $9.99 a month)
  • EMOCHI World (Plus $12.99 a month)
  • Dippy, Joyland AI, Swerve and Replika

Not listed that day: the official Chai, SpicyChat, Candy AI, CrushOn AI and PolyBuzz apps. Chai’s App Store exit is covered in the Chai safety guide, and the web versions of SpicyChat, Candy AI and CrushOn AI all run in Safari.

If you are on Android, or happy in a browser, staying on Tipsy is still an option. The Tipsy Chat safety guide covers its terms, gems and filter before you decide.

Which Apps Like Tipsy Chat Are Free Without Gems?

The free apps like Tipsy Chat with no gem meter are Janitor AI, which is free on its built-in model, and SpicyChat, which allows up to 2,000 replies a day on a signed-in free account.

CrushOn AI’s free models are also unlimited, but idle chats are deleted after 7 days.

Tipsy’s gem cost depends on the model and how much memory a chat uses, according to its subscription FAQ, so long stories on bigger models drain gems fastest.

That is the complaint in one r/chatbot thread asking for a Tipsy alternative, where the poster says gem-limited messaging ruins the experience.

I don’t buy the idea that any free tier here replaces Tipsy for heavy daily use, but two of them come close.

Example scenario: You chat with one character for an hour every evening. On Janitor’s built-in model or SpicyChat’s free tier that costs nothing, though SpicyChat shows the bot only about 4,096 tokens of the story at once. On Nectar’s free plan you stop at 15 messages a day, and on Candy’s you stop after 5 messages in total.

Prices and App Store listings checked on each app’s pricing page or App Store listing, October 31, 2026.

SpicyChat raised its paid plans on September 8, 2026, to $5.95, $19.95 and $29.95 a month, and the SpicyChat free tier breakdown covers the daily cap in detail.

For a browser-based free start, SpicyChat is the closest match to Tipsy’s community characters.

Character AI is free and on iPhone, but it is in Chapter 11 and up for sale, which the Character AI bankruptcy guide explains. That makes it a shaky place to rebuild a long story right now.

Which Tipsy Chat Alternatives Allow Adult Roleplay?

The Tipsy Chat alternatives that allow adult roleplay are Janitor AI, SpicyChat, CrushOn AI, Candy AI and Nectar AI.

Character AI and Talkie Lab do not, on any plan.

My rule for adult roleplay apps is simple: check the age-check rules for your country before you move a long story over. SpicyChat asks for a video selfie or ID for NSFW chat in France, the UK, Italy, Australia and 26 US states, and unverified users keep SFW chat.

Janitor’s iPhone app opens in a restricted Safe Mode, and adult content is switched on from your account settings on the website. That keeps the App Store version clean while the same account works in full on the web.

CrushOn AI allows adult roleplay, its free plan includes unlimited free models, and Standard costs $5.99 a month for 2,000 Pro credits.

Nectar AI suits people who build their own characters, with 15 free messages and 10 image generations a day, and Premium at $9.99 a month.

Tipsy’s own filter story, including why some chats got stricter, belongs in the Tipsy safety guide linked above. Every app on this list runs in Safari, so the App Store is no longer the deciding factor for adult roleplay on iPhone.

Quick Takeaways

  • Tipsy Chat is gone from the App Store in six countries as of October 31, 2026, but it still runs on Android and at tipsy.chat.
  • Janitor AI is the closest free app like Tipsy Chat that you can still install on iPhone.
  • Candy AI is the paid pick for pictures and memory at $3.99 a month on its yearly plan, in Safari.
  • SpicyChat and CrushOn AI are free in a browser and allow adult roleplay, with age checks in some regions.
  • Cancel a Tipsy App Store subscription in Settings before renewal, and ask Apple, not Tipsy, for a refund.
