Most fanfic generators hand you one block of text and stop. This one is built for the way fan fiction actually gets written: an opening that hooks you, then chapter after chapter where you decide what happens next. Type a direction such as “they get snowed in” or leave it blank and let the story pick its own turn.
How to write fanfic with the generator
1. Name the fandom and the ship. Anything works: books, anime, games, K-pop, films. Write the pairing the way you would tag it on AO3, for example “Draco x Hermione” or “Zhongli and the Traveler”.
2. Pick a genre, trope and rating. The trope list covers the classics fans search for, from enemies to lovers to coffee shop AU. The rating follows the familiar General, Teen and Mature split.
3. Add a plot idea if you have one. A single sentence is enough. “Eighth year, they get paired for a potions project” gives the writer a scene to open on instead of a summary to fill.
4. Continue, steer, copy. Each new scene picks up where the last one ended and keeps the same voice. When you like it, copy the whole fic in one click.
What a generated opening looks like
This is the start of a real run with the settings Harry Potter, Draco x Hermione, Angst, Slow burn, Bittersweet, Teen and up:
Hermione’s quill froze above her parchment the moment Professor Slughorn announced the pairings.
“And for the advanced brewing project, we’ll need collaboration. Let’s see… Granger with Malfoy.”
The scratching of quills throughout the classroom stopped. Hermione didn’t look up. She could feel Draco’s stare from two tables over, that particular weight of his attention that had plagued her since they were eleven.
The full opening ran about 430 words and ended on Draco setting a time to meet in the library. Asking it to continue with “Snape walks in and catches them” produced a second scene that kept the slow burn intact.
Tropes and AUs you can pick
| Trope or AU | What the generator does with it |
|---|---|
| Enemies to lovers | Opens on open hostility with one crack in it, so the tension has somewhere to go. |
| Slow burn | Keeps romance in glances and almost-moments for the first chapter. |
| Fake dating | Sets up the arrangement and the reason both sides agreed to it. |
| Coffee shop, college or modern AU | Moves canon characters into a present-day setting while keeping their personalities. |
| Soulmate AU | Builds the story around a soulmate mark, timer or shared sense. |
| Canon divergence or time travel fix-it | Changes one canon event and follows the consequences. |
| Reader insert (x Reader) | Writes in second person so you are the one in the scene. |
| Found family | Focuses on platonic bonds, which also suits fandoms where the characters are young. |
Ratings and what the generator will not write
General keeps things warm and gentle. Teen and up allows kissing, peril and mild language. Mature allows adult themes, violence and strong language, and intimate scenes between adults fade to black instead of being described explicitly.
Romance only ever happens between adults. If canon characters are minors, the story stays platonic no matter which trope you pick. The generator also writes new scenes rather than copying text from the original books, scripts or songs.
Tips for better fanfic results
Give it a moment, not a plot. “They share an umbrella after the final battle” beats “a story about Draco and Hermione falling in love”. Specific starting points make specific scenes.
Use the continue box to steer. Short directions work best, such as “she finds his letter” or “a rival from canon shows up”. Leave it empty when you want to be surprised.
Switch point of view between runs. The same prompt in first person and in third person reads like two different fics, which helps when you are hunting for the voice of your own story.
Want the characters to talk back?
A fanfic is something you read. If you would rather play one of the characters while the AI voices the rest, an AI roleplay chat is the next step. Our AI roleplay generator writes opening messages you can paste straight into a chat, and this list of Character AI bots that read like fanfiction shows where to find characters already built for it.
Writing original fiction instead of fan works? The AI story generator uses the same engine with genre, idea and character fields in place of fandom and pairing. For a wider look at writing tools, see our roundup of the best AI story makers.
