Grok Pricing for Every Plan and the Two Prices xAI Leaves Off

What’s Changed: Grok now sells five consumer plans. Free costs $0, SuperGrok Lite $10 a month, SuperGrok $30, SuperGrok Plus $100 and SuperGrok Heavy $300. xAI’s own pricing page prints only three of those prices, so the full list below comes from its App Store listing and plan comparison, current as of October 7, 2026.

Grok pricing should take ten seconds to check, and on xAI’s own site it does not. The Grok pricing page shows cards for Free, SuperGrok and SuperGrok Plus, then lists SuperGrok Lite and SuperGrok Heavy in a comparison grid with buttons and no price at all.

Those two missing prices sit at both ends of the ladder. Lite at $10 is where most casual users should start, while Heavy is the plan behind many of the large charges people find on a bank statement and do not recognize.

What bothers me most is how much of the real cost lives outside the plan price. A weekly usage pool pauses paid features when it runs dry, top-up credits cost more per action than your plan’s own usage, and a $99 Heavy deal renews at $300.

This guide puts every price in one place first, then works through what each tier changes and where to buy so a refund stays possible.

Grok Pricing for Every Plan and the Two Prices xAI Leaves Off

What Is the Current Grok Pricing for Every Plan?

Grok pricing runs from $0 to $300 a month across five plans, with SuperGrok Lite at $10, SuperGrok at $30, SuperGrok Plus at $100 and SuperGrok Heavy at $300.

Grok paid plan ladder from Lite to Heavy

The US App Store listing is the one place xAI shows all four paid prices together. It sells SuperGrok Lite at $10.00, SuperGrok at $30.00, SuperGrok Plus at $100.00 and SuperGrok Heavy at $300.00.

SuperGrok also comes as a yearly plan, which the same listing carries as a second SuperGrok item at $300. That works out to $25 a month, or $60 less than twelve monthly payments.

A yearly Heavy plan exists too. The Grok FAQ warns that “large unexpected invoices are often a SuperGrok Heavy yearly subscription, not API usage.” I still pay monthly for any plan whose limits change as often as Grok’s do.

One thing no plan buys any more is the animated companion. Grok retired the companion avatars from September 1, 2026, leaving Ani and the others as personalities in ordinary chat. Even so, the $30 upgrade card in grok.com’s web code still promises “Higher usage on Voice Mode and Companions.”

If a companion app is what you were pricing, Candy AI is the one I steer people toward instead, with unlimited text chat for $13.99 a month after a $9.99 first month. Its free tier stops at 5 messages, so treat it as a paid app from day one.

Here is what each of the five plans adds, from the bottom of the ladder up.

PlanMonthly priceWhat it addsBest for
Free$0Fast model, voice mode, limited web and X searchQuick questions and trying Grok
SuperGrok Lite$10Expert reasoning mode and video generationChat-first users who want better answers
SuperGrok$30, or $300 a yearGrok Bot and higher limits on chat, images, video and voiceMixed chat and media use
SuperGrok Plus$1001080p video, much higher usage, priority access at peak timesDaily video makers
SuperGrok Heavy$300Heavy mode on Grok 4.7 and priority supportLong research and agent work

Why Does the Grok Pricing Page Show Only Three Prices?

The Grok pricing page shows only three prices because SuperGrok Lite and SuperGrok Heavy appear only in its comparison grid, with “Get Lite” and “Get Heavy” buttons and no price beside either one.

The page has carried this layout since at least August 27, 2026, the first Internet Archive capture that shows it.

The SuperGrok card on it still advertises the “Grok 4.6 model,” while the model menu on grok.com labels its Expert and Heavy modes as Grok 4.7.

xAI’s developer docs call grok-4.7 “our flagship model for code and everything else.” To me, that reads as a page nobody has touched since the redesign, so treat the App Store list as the cleaner record of what you will pay.

What Do You Get on Grok’s Free Plan?

Grok’s free plan gives you the Fast model, voice mode and limited web and X search, while xAI lists Expert mode, Grok Bot and video generation as paid features.

On grok.com, the free tier runs on the Fast model. The Expert and Heavy modes show an upgrade prompt instead.

xAI’s plan grid also marks image generation as included on Free while video is not. That covers Imagine, Grok’s image and video generator, and its free access has switched on and off by account through 2026.

Some free accounts were still making a daily video in September, so what free Imagine accounts get depends on the account more than the plan.

Free usage runs on its own chat and voice limits, which reset on their own schedule. The free plan is genuinely usable for quick questions, and it is where I tell most people to start.

What Does SuperGrok Lite Add for $10 a Month?

SuperGrok Lite adds Expert mode and video generation for $10 a month, and it leaves out Grok Bot, the always-on agent that starts at the $30 plan.

Expert is the reason to pay. It is the Grok 4.7 reasoning mode, and xAI’s comparison grid marks it as missing on Free and included from Lite upward.

Lite first appeared in March 2026, priced at $10 a month and offered to selected users as a test. That launch coverage put its videos at 480p and 6 seconds, so this is not the plan for anyone who cares how their clips look.

Chat-only users get the most out of it. In one r/grok thread, a Lite subscriber who only chats says they have never hit a usage limit, though chat quality has dropped for them lately.

Another reply in that thread calls the limit too low for chat. Even so, Lite is the paid plan I recommend most often, because Expert answers are the upgrade free users miss first.

What Does the $30 SuperGrok Plan Include?

The $30 SuperGrok plan includes Grok Bot, Expert mode, image and video generation and higher limits on every feature, all drawn from one shared weekly usage pool.

Since June 2026, paid plans no longer get separate daily limits for chat, Imagine, voice and Build, Grok’s coding workspace.

Instead you get one weekly allowance, shown as a percentage in Settings under Usage. How the weekly limit works decides how far $30 goes for you.

Video is what drains it. Images barely move the bar, and as one reply in this r/grok exchange puts it, “videos are just way more expensive and fill the bar quicker.”

There is a quality cliff as well. Once you pass your plan’s 720p cap, xAI’s FAQ says new 720p videos drop to 480p automatically.

I put chat-heavy users on Lite and video makers on this plan. Whether SuperGrok is worth $30 comes down mostly to how many videos you make each week.

What Does SuperGrok Heavy Add Over SuperGrok Plus?

SuperGrok Heavy costs $200 a month more than SuperGrok Plus and is built around Heavy mode, xAI’s multi-agent “Team of Experts” setting on Grok 4.7, with priority support that Plus does not get.

Plus, at $100, is the video plan. xAI lists 1080p video creation, “significantly higher usage across Chat, Imagine, Voice & Build,” faster replies and priority access at peak times.

Priority support is missing from Plus, despite that “priority access” line. xAI’s comparison grid gives priority support only to Heavy, Business and Enterprise, so a $100 subscriber still waits in the standard queue.

Heavy has cost $300 a month since xAI launched it alongside Grok 4 in July 2025. Its headline feature is Heavy mode, which grok.com describes as a “Team of Experts” running on Grok 4.7.

Heavy makes no sense to me for chat or video alone. Plus covers both for a third of the price, and Heavy only earns its keep on long research and agent jobs.

What Happens When the $99 SuperGrok Heavy Deal Ends?

The $99 SuperGrok Heavy deal people took in July covered three months, and it renews at the full $300 a month unless you cancel before the renewal date.

A warning on r/grok in early October spelled it out for people who took the deal in July. The next charge is $300, and in the poster’s words, “xai will never tell you.”

Here is the order I go through before any promo month ends:

  1. Find where you subscribed. Web plans live at grok.com/?_s=billing, iPhone plans under your Apple ID subscriptions and Android plans in Google Play.
  2. Check the renewal date on that screen and set a reminder two days before it.
  3. Cancel on that same screen, because uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription anywhere.
  4. Try an incognito window or another browser if the Manage Subscription button will not open on the web, which xAI’s FAQ blames on ad blockers.

The full walkthrough for each store is in the guide to cancel a Grok subscription.

Does X Premium Include Grok?

X Premium includes Grok with higher usage limits, and X Premium+ includes SuperGrok access and Grok Bot on top of X’s own perks.

That is how X’s help center describes the tiers, without listing a US price. The iPhone app fills that in, and the X app’s App Store listing shows Premium+ at $50 a month or $490 a year, Premium at $11 and Basic at $4.

X’s US web price for Premium+ rose to $40 a month in February 2025.

For Grok alone, standalone SuperGrok at $30 beats Premium+ on price. I only suggest Premium+ to people who want the X perks as well.

There is one catch in xAI’s FAQ. Premium+ benefits reach only the Grok account linked to your X account, so link them before you assume anything is missing:

  1. Sign in to grok.com with the account you want to use.
  2. Open Settings, then Account, and choose Connect your X Account.
  3. Approve the X sign-in so xAI can read your X subscription and grant the benefits.

Paying for both Premium+ and SuperGrok means paying for Grok twice on two separate bills. If that happened by accident, the FAQ says support can sort out a refund for a genuine double charge.

How Do Grok’s Extra Usage Credits Change What You Pay?

Grok’s Extra Usage Credits let a paid plan keep working after its weekly pool runs out, at a higher cost per action than the usage your plan already includes.

What happens when the Grok weekly pool runs out

When the weekly pool runs out, the Grok FAQ says “paid features will pause until your weekly limit resets.” The free chat and voice allowance stays available in the meantime.

Credits start at $5 and expire one year after purchase. In xAI’s own words, with credits “the cost per action is higher than the effective rate you get from the included weekly usage in your plan.”

Auto top-up can refill the balance on its own, up to a monthly cap you choose. Set that cap low, because every refill bills at the higher credit rate.

Where you can buy credits is muddled too. The FAQ says they “can currently only be purchased on the web,” yet the US App Store listing already sells $5, $20, $50 and $100 credit packs.

Two top-ups in one month is my signal to move up a tier. xAI’s FAQ agrees that upgrading gives more weekly usage at a lower cost per action than buying credits again and again.

Where you buy that upgrade matters as well, because it decides who refunds you.

Is Grok Cheaper on the Web or in the App?

Grok costs the same on the web and in the iPhone app for SuperGrok, Plus and Heavy, so where you buy matters more for refunds and cancelling than for price.

Where you subscribedWhere you cancelWho handles refunds
grok.com on the webgrok.com/?_s=billingxAI, through its refund request form
iPhone App StoreApple ID subscriptionsApple
Android Google PlayGoogle Play subscriptionsxAI, through its refund request form
X Premium or Premium+X settingsX, not xAI

The Android row catches people out. Google Play handles the cancel, but xAI’s FAQ says xAI handles the refund, and approved refunds usually reach your original payment method within 5 to 10 business days.

Refunds are reviewed case by case, so cancelling before a renewal is the only sure way to avoid a charge. I buy on the web where I can, because one billing screen handles every change, cancelling included.

Example scenario: You pay $30 a month for SuperGrok for a full year, which comes to $360. The yearly plan covers the same twelve months for $300, saving $60, but it also locks that money in through any limit change xAI makes along the way.

How Much Does the Grok API Cost?

The Grok API costs $2.00 per million input tokens and $6.00 per million output tokens on grok-4.7, billed from API credits that are separate from any SuperGrok plan.

That rate comes from xAI’s models page, where grok-4.7 also carries a 500k-token context window. Voice runs $0.08 a minute for speech-to-speech, and Imagine starts at $0.02 per image and $0.02 per second of video.

API credits are not refundable, per the FAQ. For anyone who only wants Grok inside their own app or script, I’d skip the subscriptions and pay per token instead.

Which Grok Plan Should You Buy?

The right Grok plan is Free for light use, Lite for Expert answers, SuperGrok for mixed chat and media, Plus for daily 1080p video and Heavy only for long multi-agent research.

Companion chat is the one use this table leaves out, since the animated companions are gone from Grok. Nectar AI covers it with a free plan of 15 messages a day and an Ultimate tier at $34.99 with long-term memory, which still costs less than SuperGrok Plus.

Privacy is the same on every individual plan. xAI’s grid reserves its no-training guarantee for Business and Enterprise, so paying $300 for Heavy does not change how your chats are handled, and Grok’s privacy settings are where that gets controlled.

My pick for most readers is Lite, since it buys the Expert upgrade for a third of the SuperGrok price. Move up only when the weekly bar starts running out before the week does.

Quick Takeaways

  • Grok costs $0, $10, $30, $100 or $300 a month, and the App Store listing is the one place xAI shows every paid price together.
  • SuperGrok Lite at $10 is the cheapest way to get Expert mode, while Grok Bot starts at the $30 plan.
  • The $99 Heavy deal renews at $300 a month, so cancel where you subscribed before the third month ends.
  • Extra Usage Credits cost more per action than your plan’s usage, so two top-ups in a month mean it is time to move up a tier.
  • X Premium+ includes SuperGrok but costs $50 a month on iPhone, so standalone SuperGrok at $30 is cheaper for Grok alone.
