What they miss is what happens after you’ve used the thing long enough for the novelty to settle.

I spent a month with Candy AI and used it the way most people do: daily chats, voice calls, generated images, and a token balance that shrank faster than I expected.

Candy’s own subscription page says it is “Trusted by 50 million people worldwide”, and this review checks whether it suits the way you would actually use it.

Here’s the summary before we get into the details:

Candy AI is a genuinely capable platform for AI companionship. The character customization goes deeper than most competitors, the conversation quality holds up past day three, and the NSFW features work without the constant hedging you get on most platforms. The catch is the token system: Premium includes 100 tokens a month, Candy publishes no per-image, voice or video price, and an empty balance means buying more.

Read through to the end, and you’ll know what a real month costs with tokens counted, how the chat holds up after week one, and whether the subscription is worth keeping.

Updated October 2026: I re-checked Candy AI’s subscription page and help center on 22 October 2026. The monthly plan is $9.99 for the first month and $13.99 after that, quarterly works out to $8.99 a month, and the annual plan runs at $3.99 a month. Candy publishes no token prices for images, voice or video generation, so this review no longer estimates them.

Is Candy AI Worth It in 2026?

For unlimited text chat and deep character customization, Candy AI earns the $13.99/month. That is the use case where it beats most of the category, and the 100 tokens included each month go toward images, voice and video on top.

It stops being a clear yes the moment you lean on the media features. Images, voice calls and private content packs all draw on those 100 tokens, Candy does not publish what each one costs, and its own example prices an Exclusive Character at 200 tokens. If that is your usage, Nectar AI lists 600 photo messages and 50 voice messages on its $9.99-a-month Premium plan, which makes a media-heavy month easier to predict.

So the real answer depends on how you use it. It is an easy yes for text-first roleplay and customization, a maybe for heavy image or voice use, and the free tier stops at 5 messages.

What Is Candy AI and Who Built It?

Candy AI is a web-based AI companion platform built by EverAI Limited, a company registered in Malta under Malta Business Registry number C107181, and it launched in 2023. So yes, Candy AI is legit: it is a registered company’s product under EU rules, and most complaints about it concern token costs. The category around it is real money too: Grand View Research estimated the global AI companion market at $36.8 billion in 2025, which explains how fast rivals keep launching.

The core concept is straightforward: pick a character from a library of over 140 pre-made companions split between realistic and anime styles, or build your own from scratch using a deep customization system.

From there, you chat, generate images, make voice calls, and run roleplay scenarios as far as the platform will go.

The platform runs as a Progressive Web App, meaning there’s no App Store or Google Play download. The lack of a native app isn’t unusual in this space given app store policies around adult content.

Candy’s home screen guide says you can still add it to your home screen. Open candy.ai in Safari or Chrome, tap Share on an iPhone or the three-dot menu on Android, and choose Add to Home Screen.

How to Get Started With Candy AI

Getting set up takes about five minutes:

1. Go to candy.ai and create a free account (email only, no phone required).
2. Browse the character library or tap “Create your own” on the main screen.
3. Set your companion’s appearance: ethnicity, age (18 to 55), hairstyle, body type.
4. Pick from 12 personality archetypes and set the relationship type: girlfriend, companion, friend, or something more specific.
5. Start chatting. The companion introduces itself based on the context you’ve built.

Candy AI is free to join, but Candy’s free plan article puts free users at 5 messages in total across all characters, one custom character, and one image. Five exchanges show you the interface and the writing style. Judging memory or long-session consistency means paying for at least one month.

Candy AI Pricing and How the Token System Works

This is the section most reviews gloss over, and it’s where most user frustration originates. Candy AI has two separate cost layers: the subscription and the tokens.

The subscription covers unlimited text messages. Tokens cover everything else: images, voice calls, video clips, and NSFW private content.

Subscription Tiers

Those rates come from Candy’s own subscription page, checked on 22 October 2026, when the 12-month plan carried 70% off, the 3-month plan 35% off and the first month of the monthly plan 29% off. Candy moves those discounts around often, so treat them as check-on-the-day figures. The Premium Plus benefits come from Candy’s Premium Plus article, which gives no price.

If you are undecided, the cheaper mistake is one month at $9.99 rather than a year at $47.88, then moving to annual once you know your token spend.

Billing appears on bank statements as “EverAI,” not as anything that identifies the service. Refunds are narrow: Candy’s refund article allows a request within 24 hours of paying, only if you have used 20 tokens or fewer and paid by card. Section 10.4.3 of Candy’s terms adds a 14-day withdrawal right for EU and UK residents on the first purchase, less what you have already used.

What Do Candy AI Tokens Cost?

Candy’s help center prices exactly one action: Candy Roulette costs 5 tokens a minute. Shorts episodes carry a token price on Candy’s own series pages, but neither Candy’s token help article nor its subscription page puts a number on images, voice or video.

Extra tokens are sold through the token store at candy.ai/tokens, which sends you to sign in before it shows any pack. The one public yardstick is Candy’s referral page, which calls 200 tokens “a $20 value”, about 10 cents a token. By that math the 100 tokens bundled with Premium are worth roughly $10.

Free accounts get no monthly tokens. The referral program pays 200 tokens each to you and the friend you invite once their subscription is active, but only Premium members can send invites. Any site or video promising a free Candy AI token generator is a scam and a common way accounts get phished.

Two settings keep media you did not ask for out of your chats. Turning off the image toggle in the Ask button menu stops the AI from sending pictures, and Candy’s image toggle article says no tokens are used while it is off. Characters in Realistic mode can also send photos, voice notes and videos on their own, and the toggles behind the icon beside the gift icon switch that off.

Cancelling is where Candy contradicts itself. A help article says cancelling “does NOT delete your tokens” and keeps the balance for when you resubscribe. Section 10.2 of the terms says remaining tokens “will expire and become unusable” when the billing period ends, so spend them before your plan runs out.

What a Real Month of Candy AI Costs

Here is how a month works out on the figures Candy publishes.

Text-first user: $13.99 a month ($9.99 the first month, or $3.99 a month on the 12-month plan), with the 100 included tokens covering the occasional image. Total: the subscription and nothing else.

Media-heavy user: daily images, voice messages and calls drain the 100 tokens, and Candy then prompts you to buy more from a store that shows prices only after sign-in. Total: the subscription plus every pack you buy, with each extra 100 tokens worth about $10 by Candy’s own valuation.

Collector: one Exclusive Character at Candy’s example price of 200 tokens uses two months of the Premium allowance, and 20 minutes of Candy Roulette uses one. Total: the subscription plus at least one top-up.

That gap between the advertised price and the real cost is what most Candy cost complaints come down to. Treat the subscription price as the minimum you will pay.

How Good Is the Chat Quality After the First Week?

The first 48 hours with any AI companion are the best. The novelty does most of the work. What matters is week two.

From what I saw, Candy AI holds up reasonably well past the initial phase. The platform uses adaptive memory, and your companion keeps its personality and tone across conversations, so it won’t treat you like a stranger on day 14. Specific details are another matter, as the memory section below shows.

Conversation quality varies by personality archetype. The “Caring” and “Adventurous” presets produce more natural dialogue than the more stylized ones.

After long sessions, the AI occasionally drifts into repetitive phrasing. Most companions in this category slip the same way.

What a Real Candy AI Conversation Looks Like in Practice

Here’s the difference between a prompt that gets generic output and one that gets something useful:

Vague: “Let’s talk.”

Specific: “We’re sitting in a bookstore café, and it’s raining outside. You’ve been waiting for me for 20 minutes. How are you feeling?”

The second prompt activates Candy AI’s location awareness feature. The companion stays anchored in the scene you’ve described and builds on it rather than drifting into generic small talk.

The more specific and situational your prompts, the more immersive the output.

Roleplay quality is above average for the category. The AI rarely breaks character or resets to a neutral tone the way you’ll encounter on more restricted platforms.

For NSFW roleplay, the companion requires some conversational context before engaging in explicit content. Candy builds toward it the way a relationship would, which some users find more satisfying and others find slow.

How Well Does Candy AI Remember You?

Memory on this platform pulls in two directions, and the distance between them turned into my main complaint. Visual recall is the best I have tested anywhere. Conversational recall is much weaker.

Set a companion in a specific outfit, room and hairstyle, and the V2 image engine reproduces those details across hundreds of generations weeks apart. That through-line holds tighter here than on any competing platform I have used.

The chat side loses the thread far faster. Tell your companion about your sister on Monday, ask about her on Thursday, and the model will often have lost her name. Storylines that build across several sessions tend to reset after 48 to 72 hours, and the companion drops back to opening-question small talk.

The two systems feel disconnected inside one product. Your character will look exactly right and have no idea what happened last week.

Screenshots hide this, because visual consistency implies the whole product is keeping up. A month of daily use is what surfaces the gap. If continuity of conversation is the one thing you care about, buy something built around long-term context instead, and Nomi AI handles that specific job better.

Candy AI Image Generation

Candy AI’s image engine is now V2 for every new character you build. Candy’s Create My AI update says V2 brings better image quality, realism and consistency, and new V1 characters can no longer be made. Older V1 characters stay as they were.

In my testing, face consistency and lighting quality are solid, and an outfit you set while building the character holds. Ad-hoc outfit and setting requests are the weak spot.

Specific wardrobe requests like “wear the blue dress from earlier” hit the right result maybe 50% of the time. If you want image-heavy use without hunting for good outputs, that inconsistency adds up.

Candy does not publish a per-image token price, so the reliable figure is your own balance before and after a generation. Images draw on the same 100 tokens as voice and video, and the two settings covered in the pricing section stop media you did not ask for.

For casual use, the monthly allotment keeps costs manageable. For daily generation, factor in the extra token spend.

What Story Mode Does

The Story Mode update (added in 2026) automatically generates images timed to your roleplay narrative. Instead of manually requesting an image, the platform reads the context of your conversation and offers visuals tied to the current scene.

It works best during structured roleplay with clear setting descriptions. Abstract or humor-driven conversations produce odd results since the AI renders things literally.

For immersive narrative roleplay specifically, it adds something real.

What Live Action Video Does

Live Action is a Premium-only video mode for selected pre-made characters, such as Luna, Isabella and Olivia, and Candy’s Live Action article says it currently runs on mobile only. You open it from the joystick icon in the chat and pick from a menu of actions, where some actions are free and some cost tokens.

Your own characters get video a different way. You generate an image and convert it into a short clip, and Candy’s video article describes those clips as “simple, animated sequences”. Build Your Video does the same from presets, assembling a scene from the character, action, location and partner you pick.

If someone asked me what Candy AI does that its rivals do not, the video side is what I would point at. The clips are short and the motion stays simple, but nothing else at this price animates a character you built with this much consistency.

Live Action is separate from Candy Shorts, the scripted video series Candy produces itself. Every Shorts series plays its first two episodes free, and later episodes cost 12 tokens each on most series on top of Premium, which the Candy Shorts breakdown covers.

Are Candy AI Voice Calls Worth the Tokens?

The voice quality surprised me. Going in, I expected something robotic enough to break immersion. What I got was noticeably better than that: not ElevenLabs-quality, but serviceable for a companion interaction.

Candy AI offers nine voice profiles. The “warm” and “soft” presets are the strongest. The “confident” options have a subtle artificial edge that becomes more noticeable over longer calls.

Voice Calls are still marked beta in Candy’s help center, and both calls and listening to a voice message are paid in tokens at a rate Candy does not publish. Characters in Realistic mode can also send voice notes unprompted, so switch that off if you want tokens spent only on calls you start.

For users who primarily want text conversations with occasional image generation, voice calls are a useful extra. For users who want daily calls as the main feature, the token costs add up quickly.

Is Candy AI Safe to Use?

The privacy picture is mixed. Candy AI uses HTTPS and standard server security, but the company has not published documentation confirming end-to-end encryption for user conversations.

For most users, this is an acceptable tradeoff, the same as most social and messaging apps. For users who are privacy-conscious about the specific nature of their conversations on an adult AI platform, it’s worth factoring in.

EverAI is registered in Malta, which falls under EU GDPR jurisdiction, giving users formal data rights, including deletion requests.

To delete your account, open My Profile, then Settings, scroll to the “Danger Zone” and choose Delete Account. Candy’s deletion article says your preferences, usage history and personal information become “permanently unavailable”, though Candy keeps some data for legally mandated periods. Cancelling a subscription leaves your chats, images and characters on the account until you delete it.

On billing: charges appear as “EverAI” on bank statements, which is discreet.

Trustpilot has removed its candy.ai profile, with a notice that the business “goes against our guidelines” and no word on which guideline. The “Candy AI” profile that shows up in search instead is registered to arthur-cleron.fr rather than candy.ai, so read its small set of reviews with caution.

A month of daily use makes the trade-offs fairly clear.

What Candy AI Does Well

• Unlimited text chat on the base plan. The $13.99 monthly subscription covers as much conversation as you want, and the character customization goes deeper than most platforms in this category.
• Chat quality survives the novelty period. Your companion still holds its personality and tone on day 14 instead of resetting to a blank slate, and the Caring and Adventurous presets read more naturally than the stylized ones.
• Visual continuity is the best I have tested. Set an outfit, room and hairstyle, and the V2 engine reproduces them across hundreds of generations weeks apart.
• Video goes further than most rivals at this price. Live Action runs interactive scenes with selected characters on mobile, and images of your own characters convert into short clips that keep their look.
• NSFW roleplay runs without constant hedging. On premium the platform is among the more permissive in the category, though it wants some conversational context before explicit scenes.
• Leaving is not a fight. Cancellation works from the Settings page without emailing support, and charges read as “EverAI” on statements rather than anything identifying.

Where Candy AI Falls Short

• Conversational memory is short. Storylines reset after 48 to 72 hours and details you mention can vanish within days, which sits oddly beside the visual recall.
• Ad-hoc outfit and setting requests are inconsistent. Face, lighting and outfits set at creation hold up, but a wardrobe callback you ask for mid-chat lands about half the time.
• The free tier settles nothing. Five messages in total, one custom character and one image will not tell you whether the chat quality suits you.
• No published end-to-end encryption. Chats are likely stored on EverAI’s servers in retrievable form, which carries more weight on an adult platform than on a general messaging app.
• No native mobile app. Candy AI runs as a progressive web app, so there is no App Store or Google Play listing to install from.

How Candy AI Compares to Nectar AI and CrushOn AI

These are the three platforms that come up most often in the same conversation, and they serve genuinely different needs.

The key difference in practice: Nectar AI puts a number on its media. Premium at $9.99 a month lists 6,000 messages a month, 600 photo messages and 50 voice messages, and Nectar sells credit packs from $4.99 for advanced roleplay, image and video generation on top. If you generate a lot of images, that published allowance makes Nectar the easier month to budget.
